The Passion of Tam Shanter reinvents the Burns ballad as a powerful contemporary psychological thriller.
The wonderful Marty Ross is returning to No28 by special request from his far away Scottish island home with the latest of his extraordinary one man shows. If you saw Marty at No28 all those years ago you will be not wanting to miss him – if you are new to his talents, you have an absolute treat in store – but prepare to be shaken to the core!
‘Scottish storyteller Marty Ross returns to a familiar haunt at No28 Belper, performing his dramatically reimagined version of the classic ballad of Scottish witchcraft by Robert Burns. But this is no mere Burns night recital – Ross, a dramatist whose work includes much work for BBC Radio (the recent Local Hero) and star-studded productions for Audible (including the ‘Dickens trilogy’ produced by Sam Mendes and starring the likes of Brian Cox & Helena Bonham Carter), reinvents the basic story as a very contemporary and intense psychological thriller: Tam is now a property developer ‘drunk’ on his own power and planning on destroying an old ruined church to clear the way for a modern shopping development. But a young woman who haunts the ruin leads him down a darker, more dangerous path. This, as with Marty’s previous shows, is not some sedate Jackanory style experience, but full tilt dramatic, immersive theatre, not to be missed’.
Performance begins 7pm.
Running time: two hours, plus interval.
