Chris will be PERFORMING ‘Regarding the River’ on Wednesday 27 May, 7.30-8.30pm. This live art and spoken word performance is free to attend.
The EXHIBITION PREVIEW is on Sunday 12 April 7-9 pm (the exhibition continues until July 5th).
Chris Lewis-Jones is an ‘artist-flaneur’, one who travels hopefully, across media and contexts. His practice is informed by his interest in psychogeography and all things folkloric. Since moving to Belper, he has been exploring the Derwent Valley: birthplace of the factory system, if not the industrial revolution. This he does using combinations of watercolour, assemblage, installation, photography, spoken word and live art performance.
In addition to exploring the beauty and the history of the River, Chris is actively involved in promoting water literacy in general whilst campaigning to ‘Save Our Derwent’ in particular. He sees no distinction between these fine art, community, folkloric, educational and political activities. For the artist, they are all part of the same practice.
